Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 9
You write when you want and submit when it fits your summer schedule.

Every week there will be a writing challenge in the Outschool classroom.

Each challenge will be different but they will be fun and teach the student something new.
Every week a short video and document with instructions will be posted in the classroom.

The challenges will be as follows.

1. Write a story from a picture posted in the classroom.

2. Interview an older relative about their childhood and use the interview to write a short story.

3. Challenge will be announced

4. Write a ghost story that takes place in a lighthouse on a stormy winter day.

5. Create a character by using the collage posted in the classroom.

6. Take this character out for an adventure using the words and map posted in the classroom.

7. Challenge will be announced

8. Write a funny story that takes place in a circus.

9. The character from challenge 5 will either get a new job, find a treasure map or step into a new dimension.

10. Challenge will be announced

The student should post their writing in the Outschool classroom for feedback from me and other students.

Each student may read the other students' work and give feedback. The feedback should include two positives and one thing that other student needs to work on.

As an example

"I really like the beginning of your story and how it jumps into action right away. I also think you have used a lot of great descriptions but I don't truly understand why the character gave up

OR

"I find your character really interesting and I love the part when she discovered that she could fly. I would have liked to see some more details about the city she lives in because I couldn't picture it in my mind."

Teacher expertise and credentials
In my creative writing classes, I encourage students to draw from their experiences and thoughts to create unique pieces and share my passion for writing. This passion has been recognized with four awards for a short story and three poems, which I hope will inspire your students.

I am an immigrant from Sweden with a master's degree in education from Lund/Malmö University.
I am dedicated to forming connections with my students and customizing my teaching to suit their age. I aim to challenge my students while ensuring they never feel like failures. Patience, humor, and kindness are paramount in my approach.

As a teacher, I foster critical thinking through various activities such as research and discussions. The most rewarding part of my job is igniting my students' joy of learning and nurturing their curiosity about the world.

I believe in incorporating play into my teaching whenever possible, as I believe that everyone, regardless of age, has a playful side.

I have previously taught social and political science, religion, and geography and have nearly 25 years of experience working with children of different ages.

My diverse interests include folklore, photography, nature, books, and history, particularly on overlooked historical figures. I hope to share these interests with your students, sparking their curiosity and broadening their horizons.

I eagerly look forward to having your student in my class and am excited to embark on this learning journey together!
