Many children struggle with writing because they don't know what to write, their imagination isn't strong (they think), writing feels like work and not fun, and more negative associations with writing. Then they struggle in school because they've already written off writing for good (pun intended).

But fret not! The goal of this class is to expose students to various types of writing they may not have thought about before as "writing" - and that's a good thing! They can write without feeling as though they are "writing," which takes off enormous pressure leaving space to enjoy the process. Students will have lots of opportunities to make individual choices when it comes to what projects they will work on or complete. The focus is on associating writing with fun and games - not forced assignments.

By looking at writing with new eyes and insight, kids can begin to learn to love writing - not as a chore or work, but as something to look forward to. Their imaginations will become inspired!

🌸 Classes start with small assignments to get the students comfortable with the idea of writing while having fun in the process and stoking their imaginations! During each lesson, we will cover several fun examples of the writing we will be working on in that class. Each assignment and exercise will come with a template as applicable to help the child think about what they want to say and guide them toward writing it.

🌸 To keep the students eager to log into the classroom each day, there will be a 'secret puzzle' each week that will slowly be revealed daily. Students love this feature because it provides a solid incentive to log into the class each day or most days.

🌸 Please see the syllabus for the weekly breakdown of assignments and activities. The weekly activities are designed to start "easy" and work our way up. It helps students' overwhelm, and the templates help the most reluctant of writers.

Teacher Bethanie
