I am so glad that you have chosen to learn to play this beautiful instrument this summer. In this class, the students will learn the fundamentals of violin playing: how to hold and take care of the instrument and bow, how to tune the violin, how to perform pizzicato on both the open strings and the D string notes. The class goal will be to pluck or pizzicato "Hot Cross Buns" and "Baby Shark". Students will interact with the teacher and each other through videos, in-class performances, and group discussions. Students will need a violin, bow, shoulder rest, instrument stand, fingering tapes, and rosin. This class is for students with NO previous experience playing the violin. If you have played the violin before, I recommend you enroll in one of my "Beginning Violin Level 2" upcoming classes. Class time is structured as follows: tuning check (students should tune before class starts), short review, new topic/ technique of the day, mastering of pieces, spotlight time, homework assignment. If you are left wondering what "spotlight time" is all about, it is a time for students to play for their peers and show what they have learned. Students will only play if they wish to do so. The topics covered are: Week 1: Instrument care, stance, and violin hold/ Tuning/ Pizzicato or Plucking Week 2: Setting up the left hand/ Introducing notes E, F, and G on the D string/ The music alphabet Week 3: Playing "Hot Cross Buns" and "Baby Shark" in pizzicato. Week 4: Holding the bow and making the first sounds with it. So exciting! Join me as we enjoy discovering and exploring the violin together!
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to hold the instrument and bow well, the basics of tuning, and how to perform pizzicato. They will also learn the notes on the D string.
