Class Experience

US Grade 3
Intermediate Level
School is out and it's time for Summer fun. Great for your children but, stressful for adults who worry that during the fun and play their children are losing skills they just learned in 3rd grade.
Well your concern is valid. According to “School’s out: The role of summers in understanding achievement disparities,” published in the American Educational Research Journal states that " the average student lost 17–34% of the prior year’s learning gains during summer break".

Don't let that happen to your children! Come join the Summer Slide Math Series with me. This class runs Monday - Friday. Their are 8 different weekly sessions during the summer starting mid June to mid August (Each week is a separate enrollment). You can register for one week or all the weeks during the summer because each week reviews a set of different skills- no sessions are the same.

Each daily class your child will complete 5 different skill questions for 3rd grade math. Then we will review each skill together. Mini review lessons will be done to cover any skills your child needs a refresher on. Supplies Needed: Pencil, Eraser, Paper, Colored Pencils, and Ruler.

The 5 daily skill questions will be pulled from the Common Core 3rd grade Math Standards:

Operations and Algebraic Thinking (3.OA.A.1-4, 3.OA.B.5-6, 3.OA.C.7, and 3.OA.D8-9):
-Represent and solve problems involving multiplication and division.
-Understand properties of multiplication and the relationship between multiplication and division.
-Multiply and divide within 100
-Solve problems involving the four operations, and identify and explain patterns in arithmetic.

Number and Operations in Base Ten (3.NBT.A.1-3):
-Use place value understanding and properties of operations to perform multi-digit arithmetic.

Number and Operations—Fractions (3.NF.A.1-3):
-Develop understanding of fractions as numbers

Measurement and Data (3.MDA.1-4, 3.MDB.5, & 3.MDC.5-7):
-Solve problems involving measurement and estimation
-Represent and interpret data.
-Geometric measurement: understand concepts of area and relate area to multiplication and to addition
-Geometric measurement: recognize perimeter.
Learning Goals
Children will work on retaining previous year's math skills during the summer months so that knowledge loss is greatly reduced.
