US Grade 1 - 3
"A.J. and the gang are graduating! But Mrs. Dole, the out-of-control PTA president, is turning the whole thing into a huge ceremony, complete with fireworks, a petting zoo, and a flyover by the Blue Angels! Why is moving up to third grade such a big deal? And what could possibly go wrong?" Students will need to purchase/borrow the first and second books in the My Weird School Daze titled, "Mrs. Dole is Out of Control!" and "Mr. Sunny is Funny" for this class. Students will need to read each book before each meeting. Thereafter, each class will begin with a fun and interesting "question of the day" critical thinking prompt related to the assigned reading. Students can briefly discuss any initial thoughts they had on the assigned reading. Then, the teacher will engage the students in an "order the events" activity, a "prediction" activity, and several critical thinking prompts that lead to exciting discussions and ideas on the character's behavior and choices. At the end of class, the teacher will remind students to read book 2 before the next meeting. Filled with lighthearted fun and engagement (and of course, puzzles!) your child will be eager to read both books and come to class ready to discuss. Here is the class schedule: Week 1: Students will have come to class having independently read book 1 (Mrs. Dole is Out of Control!) Homework for week 2: read book 2 (Mr. Sunny is Funny) Week 2: Students will have come to class having independently read book 2 (Mr. Sunny is Funny) See you soon! Love, Teacher Bethanie
