Welcome!
I am offering intensive one-on-one classes as well as group classes. Some of my classes are:
Sound Foundation for Successful Reading (a highly-structured prereading program for preschoolers, students with dyslexia, and struggling learners of all ages) and Barton reading and spelling.
Professional background:
I have a bachelor's degree in Speech-Language-Hearing and a master's degree in Special Education. In addition to my master's degree, I am a certified reading specialist, and I am certified to teach ESOL and German (K-12). I have over 10 years of teaching experience, and I am especially passionate about teaching struggling readers to reach their potential.
I have been trained using the Wilson Reading program-specifically Fundations and the Barton reading and spelling program as well as the Foundation in Sounds program (to improve a student's auditory discrimination, auditory memory size, and auditory sequencing skills).
I am using the newest and most time-proven research and evidence-based strategies and methods. I am passionate about teaching students with their personal interests in mind to keep them engaged and motivated. I am convinced that engaged students learn at a much faster rate than students who are just going through the motions.
I love watching how my students' self-esteem increase as they learn the phonics rules and reading and writing skills that they need to be successful readers and writers.
I have successfully worked with a wide variety of students with exceptionalities, such as learning disabilities, ADHD, Autism, dyslexia, dyscalculia, RAD, language processing disorders, and more.
I would say that I am a cheerful, positive teacher who is encouraging and straightforward. For the past 8 years, I have worked as as a full-time special education teacher using a variety of programs and methods based on my students' needs. Next school year, I will be working as an ESOL teacher. I am never getting tired of learning to improve my students' skills.
Please reach out to me to find out more about my qualifications, and teaching style, to schedule lessons, or if you have any other questions.
Something fun about me is that I love to figure skate!
