What's included

2 live meetings
2 in-class hours
Homework
1 hour per week. There is no required homework for this class. However, a worksheet will be provided after each class meeting (2 worksheets total, 1 after each class meeting) that contains sentences that students can practice correctly placing commas within. An answer key will be provided.
Assessment
Students will be informally assessed during the lesson as they volunteer to answer questions. Reteaching and modeling will be provided based on the informal assessment of whether students have confidence with the current comma rule. The homework worksheet with provided answer key is another way the student's learning can be assessed.

Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
Beginner - Advanced Level
This two session summer camp grammar class is focused on comma rules. We will focus on four of the most common comma situations.

Students will be introduced to several comma rules and will have ample time to practice correctly applying them in sentences.

Session 1:
1. Using commas to combine two independent clauses with a coordinating conjunction
2. Using commas to separate three or more words in a list

Session 2:
1. Using commas around phrases that are not essential to the sentence; not using them around essential phrases
2. Using commas after an introductory clause

Class content will be taught through a colorful, fun PowerPoint presentation and class lecture and discussion.

We will also play a game where students will attempt to correctly place commas in sentences. If they answer correctly, they will earn points for their team. Including a game in the lesson will encourage more class interaction and fun.
