Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 9
During this ongoing course, we will focus on the works of Youth Poet Laureates. Learners will be inspired by these Generation Z poets to write their own poems. Each class section will focus on a different poetry form, highlight a different teenage poet, and learners will write their own poem. Class time will include Kahoot games, YouTube video clips and interactive elements such as Google Jamboard and Zoom participation tools to encourage learners to share their poems with each other. Learners do not need any prior experience or knowledge of poetry. As a certificated High School English Teacher in California, my students always enjoyed my poetry units, and found they were poets and they didn't even know it! Future class descriptions will be added at least 4 weeks prior to class. Get $18 off my classes with coupon code MCNABFIRSTFREE18 until Feb 10, 2023. Parental Guidance
Poetry by its very nature can trigger strong emotions. While I am carefully selecting poems and avoiding obviously upsetting or controversial topics, please let me know at least 48 hours before class if your learner should avoid a particular topic. I will be screen sharing videos from YouTube, and learners will utilize Google Jamboard and Kahoot for educational games. No accounts are required.
