This Book Club is dedicated to reading Jane Austen's "Northanger Abbey". We will be meeting for 50 minutes once a week for 7 weeks. Let's dive into Jane Austen's critique (and at times parody) of the pulp gothic literature that was taking the world by storm. If your student loves wit and mystery, you are in the right place. Northanger Abbey - Jane Austen We will be reading Jane Austen's "Northanger Abbery" during this 7-week, 50 minute/session class. As we read, students will also be learning effective questioning and discussion skills. Using a Reading Response Journal, students will learn and perfect strong reading and discussion skills that they will use again and again throughout their lives. As we read, we will be looking at the differing points of view as we engage with Jane Austen's comically classic gothic mystery. The beauty of this is that students will be immersed in a fantastic, engaging story while they do it! We will also look at the art created for the text and discuss how it affects our reading and understanding of the novel. The chapters in this awesome book are thought provoking and engaging; so the story moves quickly. Students will use the weekly reading guide to record their thoughts as they engage with the novel. Below is the reading schedule for the class. Week 1 - Introduction and Background Week 2 - Volume 1, Chapter 1-5 Week 3 - Volume 1, Chapter 6-10 Week 4 - Volume 1, Chapter 11-15 Week 5 - Volume 2, Chapter 1-5 Week 6 - Volume 2, Chapter 6-10 Week 7 - Volume 2, Chapter 11-16 Please know that any and every Book Club class that I teach can be made into a private homeschool club during school hours. Please ask about more information!
