During this mindfulness art class, we will start by reading & discussing a book with a social skills theme (empathy, self-esteem) and then create a piece of art. This is an interactive and fun class for kids to reflect back onto themselves.
Class experience
During this class series, learners will interact with teacher and peers using a book theme. I will use books, video clips and art to make this class interactive and engaging. Students will learn about simple concept social skills (empathy, taking turns, mistakes are ok, feelings etc.) If needed, I will start with a guided drawing to get the learners comfortable and then we will move into creating more individual pieces of artwork. I have a master's degree in art therapy as well as have been a special education teacher for the past 11 years. I love combining my knowledge of art therapy and special education to give all children (neuro-typical and Sped) and interactive way of learning concepts that are important for their daily happiness and sense of self-worth.

Only if parents ask for an extending activity for further theme reinforcement.Assessments Offered
There will be on-going assessments for comprehension of the weekly theme through asking questions, discussions and art.Grades Offered
We will typically use the following supplies unless an email goes out before class: (**Please do not stress if you don't have all of the supplies - kids can use whatever supplies they like unless that class is teaching a specific art technigue in which parents will be notified ahead of time so they can prepare.) 1. Watercolors 2. Crayons / Oil Pastels (watercolors and "wax/oil" does not mix so this is a cool effect when you have both) 3. Paper that is good for painting on (student grade watercolor pads are perfect but some kids have done the classes on copy paper.) 4. Scissors 5. Glue 6. Markers
I will supply books, video clips, songs. Students only need to bring art supplies to class.
