Let's learn American Sign Language! It is a beautiful language that we are able to engage in. In this multi-day course, students will learn how to use their hands and facial expressions to communicate with others. It's amazing being able to have a conversation with others using your hands. We will have time to practice going over the signs several times to make sure the students feel comfortable with it. I encourage all the students to feel free to ask questions and share their thoughts as we are learning. Day 1 Students will learn their alphabet and how to spell different words. We will learn how to introduce ourselves and spell our names. We will also learn many everyday and request signs. Day 2 Students will learn family signs and learn how to introduce a family member and/or friend. We will continue to use our facial expressions to learn feeling signs. We will also learn many food signs and our numbers. Day 3 Time for conversational signs! We will put everything we have learn so far in conversational sentences. Students will be expected to be able to answer questions without using their voices. We will also learn a few community signs. Day 4 Students will learn common household items and places. Day 5 Students will learn how to day their days of the week, months, seasons, and time. Day 6 Student will learn some more everyday words and clothing items. We will also review some sight words and use them to form sentences. Day 7 Students will learn their colors and animal signs. Day 8 On the last day, we will review everything we have learned. We will practice using it in a conversation and making our own sentences. We will also use it to help us interact with our other classmates. We will use class discussions and I encourage you to participate the most possible. That we you can feel comfortable interacting with others in sign language.
