Not only is reading an essential life skill, but it can be a source of entertainment. In this course, students in 4th, 5th and 6th grade dive into this heartfelt book. Students will improve their reading comprehension skills by answering questions and participating in discussions. Students will gain knowledge of new vocabulary words by defining unknown words and participating in discussions. Students will learn/review plot elements (exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution) by participating in discussions.

Homework Offered
Students are expected to read the assigned chapters, complete reading comprehension questions and vocabulary. **Please contact the instructor for accommodations :).1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Each class students will play Blooket to check reading comprehension. Instructor will reach out if scores are below 70%.Grades Offered

Reading comprehension questions and vocabulary keys are provided after each class. Pre-reading videos are available for each reading assignment. Message instructor for specialized accommodations :)
Students need to be able to read a 4th grade level text independently.
A copy of Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson. This book can be found at the library, local bookstore or online. A pen/pencil The instructor will be supplying background information videos, reading comprehension questions, and vocabulary graphic organizers.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Students will play Blooket to review key information from the readings. They don't need an account to play the game. Bridge to Terabithia mentions Christmas, Easter, God and the Bible. One character is hit by her father. One of the main characters also drowns in chapter 10.
