Class Experience

Hello and welcome to a summer full of learning and fun as we prepare to be fifth graders! There's still so much to learn, discover and explore and this class is full of opportunities to do just that! As a former classroom teacher and full time homeschool mom, I'm excited to offer this class that will have your student feeling happy, excited and confident as they review & learn content and curriculum to make them a total rockstar in FIFTH grade!

During each week this summer we will meet 4 times to cover various subject areas that are crucial to the success of every rising 5th grader. Through active engagement, exciting instruction and hands on activities, students will gain the knowledge they need (whether it be new or an opportunity for review) to achieve the tools needed to prepare them for a successful school year. Each week is based on a theme and all of the lessons will relate to the theme. Making connections in various subject areas helps students to understand and relate to the content that is being taught. As this class takes place during the summer, students will be encouraged to get outdoors to explore nature while learning. Slightly different from school year classes, this summer offering allows students to complete interest based activities that will tie in writing, art, math, reading, science and self discovery each week. Students will be offered project opportunities and are encouraged to share what they participate in and complete. Examples include collecting samples, book making, nature drawing, experiments & weekly non-fiction literature recommendations to expand upon what we are learning in class.

Below you will find an outline of class content as well as specific areas of study for the summer months. Additional outlines and information will be updated weekly. Classes listed are in the Central Time Zone. Please note: This summer-long class will end on August 17th - however a new, fourth grade FULL school year session that will offer year-long fourth grade curriculum will begin on Sept 5th and run through the entirety of the school year. I'm still planning and creating that class but will have it up by July 2023 for those that are interested in continuing. Please feel free to email with any questions or additional input!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello & welcome to Outschool! My name is Suzi and I'm excited to share a bit about myself.

I am a former elementary school teacher turned homeschooling mom. I have a background in Literacy education and find joy in teaching new things and helping students discover their interests through content and instruction. I think it's important to engage students through storytelling, example and hands on experiences.

As a teacher, I've taught everything from pre-school through high school grades and across all content areas. My favorite subjects to teach are history and math and I have a serious love of language and how to use it, whether it be through writing, speaking or problem solving.

My family and I live in Wisconsin. We have 3 children and 3 dogs (2 guinea pigs and a rabbit) and are originally from the East Coast...but are starting to realize we're destined to be midwesterners! I hope to see you in class soon!

Please feel free to reach out with any questions or suggestions you might have for classes. I love teaching with Outschool and can't wait to meet your student.

Thank you,
Miss Suzi
