Class Experience

US Grade 10 - 12
Like many exams the AP History Exams are sometimes more about your ability to take a test than your actual content knowledge. This class will start with an overview of the test followed by one class spent on strategies for each portion of the exam. We will utilize the Course Exam Descriptions from College Board to make sure we have the most accurate information about the format and expectations for the exam. The goal for written questions will be to learn a easily replicated structure that can apply to any topic so that the exam time cant be spent on content and the actual writing will follow a familiar path that limits time spent on organization and writer's block. The AP exam does not require any fancy writing but expects certain things students need to learn to highlight. Through a mix of lectures and examples students will build their skills in multiple choice, short answer, and essay questions. There will be opportunities for self reflection and goal setting as well as group discussions about the strategies and challenges of the exams. This will focus more on format and skills than any specific content so it can be applied to the European History, US History, or Modern World History Exams. I believe the AP exams offer a wonderful opportunity to challenge students while potentially receiving college credit and I want to help more students take advantage of that opportunity.
Learning Goals
Students will become familiar with the different AP History Exam sections and learn how to approach each according to how they will be graded to maximize their efforts come exam time.
