This week-by-week ongoing class helps students to practise and strengthen their skills as they learn the guitar and progress at their own pace, learning chords, melodies and finger styles to play along to songs.
Class experience
'Strengthening Skills on Guitar – Individual Ongoing Class (Ages 6-9)’ is a week-by-week class for individual students to learn the guitar, building on their skills steadily to suit their own needs. Students can join or leave the class at any time. This class naturally follows the 'Getting Started on Guitar - Introduction' class and/or the ‘Getting Started on Guitar - 5 Week Class (Individual Lessons)’. Students will learn a range of chords and learn to accompany a variety of songs. They will learn how to read chord diagrams. As students progress in their playing, they will gain experience in using different strumming patterns, playing individual notes and playing bass notes with chords and fingerstyles.
It has been my privilege and joy to teach guitar for over 35 years and to teach and work with children and young people for a similar amount of time. I am a qualified UK Primary School Teacher but currently work as a church pastor. I have a BEd (Hons.) degree in Primary Later Years (Expressive Arts). I enjoy playing music in rock, pop, folk, blues, jazz and classical styles, and also play piano, drums and bass guitar. I like to help students build knowledge, skills and confidence step by step, and above all to enjoy learning.
Homework Offered
Following each lesson, students should practise each day for 10-15 minutes, changing between chords and going over the skills learned in the lesson, using a practice video when needed to play along.Assessments Offered

The GuitarTuna free app (from https://yousician.com/guitartuna) can be downloaded from Apple App Store or Google Play onto a mobile phone, tablet or similar device. It requires an account but no payment is needed. The device's microphone has to be enabled in order to use the app. The age restriction for the app is 4+ so the content is deemed suitable for children over that age.
