Students will be given studies and puzzles during the class and is expected to continue think about the different variation and lines.Class Experience
Our chess class is taught over Zoom with an interactive chess study platform (lichess.org). MYMChess has a coaching account on the online chess study platform, lichess.org and we will assign each student a unique username / password for interactive play. Coach RJ has been teaching children the game of chess for over 10 years. Some of his students are New York State Elementary Champion, and National Chess Champion 1st place at kindergarten level. Students will learn and master different topics, strategies, and openings throughout this ongoing class. The class is broken down into theory lessons, followed by interactive chess practice. Students will learn pattern recognition, calculation, tactics and visualization throughout the course and these will benefit the student in many levels. Students are expected to have a good understanding of Chess prior enrolling into this class: Here is a sample of topics we will be learning Week 1 - Advanced Visualization Week 2 - Endgame with different combination of pieces Week 3 - Discuss classical games Week 4 - Advanced tactics Week 5 - Positional Strategy Week 6 - Pawn Structure Week 7 - Demolition Week 8 - Good and Bad Squares
Learning Goals
This program is designed to help improve critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Students can apply what they learn in class in real life situation. For example, in chess, you will need to calculate each position to come up with the best move. This is same in life, you are often facing many difficult choices, you will learn to evaluate the situation, and come up with the best choice.
