In this interactive class, students will listen to dance themed stories and discuss some of the lessons or themes in the books. Our books will draw from a variety of dance styles and include themes such as confidence, acceptance, inclusion, perseverance, embracing your individuality and friendship to name a few! Students will be able to get up to stretch and move together for the second half of class. Fun music and imaginative games will help bring the stories to life. Students do not need prior dance experience to participate in this class. I will lead them through a warm up, creative movements, and small dance phrases in the session. We will end with stretches and deep breaths before having the opportunity to share what the favorite dance move was for the day. If the student wants, they can also share if they have a connection to the theme or lesson from the book. I hope to see your student in class soon! BOOKS February: Our Theme is Helping Each Other! Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I am so excited to be teaching with Outschool! I am looking forward to bringing you classes about art, music, creative writing, dance, and yoga! I hope to bring the creative arts to you through fun, engaging, hands on experiences.
I have a master's degree in dance/ movement therapy from Antioch University, as well as a mental health counseling concentration. I am also a registered yoga instructor. I believe yoga & creative arts are a beautiful way to connect with others, as well as a wonderful way to express yourself. Through writing, art, music, dance and yoga, I hope to help kids explore their own unique creativity and have fun while doing it!
I have experience working with kids of all ages, from preschoolers to adolescents. I've taught yoga and creative dance to kids in school settings as well as yoga studios. Currently, I work in a psychiatric facility as a dance therapist and yoga teacher for teens and adults. I hold a dementia care specialist certification and bring music, art and dance to seniors with alzheimer's and dementia through various recreational activities. My other passion is bringing yoga and meditation to those struggling with addiction and supporting them as they begin the recovery process.
As a military wife I hope to offer support for military kids through classes about moving and connecting with other military kids. Our military family has moved 7 times! We love to travel and experience new places but we also know that there can be some stressful emotions when it comes to leaving a place you have grown to love. I hope to help kids see they are not alone, as well as learn practical skills when moving, meeting new friends and surviving the first weeks of a new school!
Currently I live in North Dakota with my husband and three kids. I enjoy all things Broadway (Greatest Showman, Hamilton and Encanto soundtracks are currently on repeat on our house right now!) I also love finding new places to hike and eat tacos. I hope to meet your student soon, see you in class!
