Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 4
This class is perfect for learners who love to tell stories and let their imaginations soar!

Every week we will explore a different writing topic, prompt, and practice public speaking. I will spend some time introducing the topic and skills used in a certain type of writing (for example, we may discuss what makes a good hook, topic sentences, providing evidence for persuasive writing, elements of descriptive writing, etc) before giving the students writing time.

Then, we will do a quick full-body warm-up and go over the essentials of public speaking before having the students share their writing. I will provide feedback and adjustments for the students, sometimes asking them to repeat part of their speaking with the adjustments I've given so they can practice.

I believe that the best way to improve writing and public speaking is through practice, practice, and more practice. The class size is small and limited so as to provide every student the opportunity to practice public speaking and receive feedback every week.

Writing focuses will include: descriptive writing, dialogue, storytelling, and persuasive writing.
Public speaking skills will include: posture, making eye contact, using gesture, facial expressions, vocal inflection, breathing, calming nerves, speaking clearly, supporting one's voice, and more.

This class has a new writing prompt each week so students can join at any time. The first 4 weeks are planned as follows:
Week of July 31st - Hook, Line, and Sinker: The Art of a Good Hook
Week of August 7th - Would you rather? Writing Persuasive Speeches
Week of August 14th - Action! Scriptwriting Basics
Week of August 21st - The World is Your Oyster: Metaphor and Simile in Writing

All of my classes are formatted to encourage creativity and expression, while still remaining a safe place for students of all levels of extroversion to participate. I hope to meet your learner in class!
