In this fun educational class we will meet to share stories together. In each class a story will be read aloud to students with pausing points for questions and discussions. Then we will practice retelling important details from the stories and if time allows, writing a review of the story. I will be reading the following stories: Week of Mar 15: Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type by Doreen Cronin Week of Mar 22: Thump, Quack, Moo by Doreen Cronin Week of Mar 29: Duck for President by Doreen Cronin Week of April 12: If You Give A Pig A Pancake by Laura Numeroff Week of April 19: If You Give A Moose A Muffin by Laura Numeroff Week of April 26: Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes Week of May 3: Sheila Rae, The Brave by Kevin Henkes Week of May 10: Owen by Kevin Henkes The class format can be seen below - Introductions and expectations - Read Aloud with questions and connections - Retell: Collaboratively write and/or draw the elements of a retell utilizing provided activity sheet - Review of story utilizing provided activity sheet This class will use some note taking as we write or draw the components of a good retell and review. Students should be able to listen to a story and recall details. They should also have experience writing sentences or drawing and labeling pictures independently.

A multi page handout will be available to print from the classroom. Students will only need this and a writing tool or blank paper to create the sheets for class

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Erika and I am an early childhood educator. I have taught first grade for 5 years, third grade for 2 years and currently I'm in my second year as an instructional coach. I love teaching elementary age students and I'm especially fond of math. I am also very passionate about student voice.
I attended the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education and a Master's Degree in School Leadership. I have my Administrator's License as well as an Instructional Coaching Certificate.
I know that all students can learn and I work hard to help student reach their full potential. I have worked in a variety of environments serving a wide range of students. I know that everyone learns differently and I work hard to use the most effective strategies for each learner.
When I am not teaching I am working on my student activism program called My Voice. I enjoy blogging and creating materials for teachers on TPT. I love hanging out with my husband, baby boy & yorkie. I also thoroughly enjoy running, yoga and coffee :).
