In this 3 week class we experience science, technology, engineering, arts, and math as we hear great stories and complete hands-on projects and challenges inspired by them.

Class Experience

What is STEAM for young children?
Science means making observations, investigating, making predictions, and experimentation. 
Technology is using simple things like play dough and rulers as tools, and making and building with the materials we have.
Engineering refers to recognizing problems and testing solutions to solve them.
Art encourages our creativity and expression and builds our imagination and confidence.
Math incorporates number sense and math operations, but also patterns and shapes, and sorting and classifying.
How will we use STEAM?
In this fun hands-on class we will listen to great Halloween stories and then complete a STEAM project based on the story.
Week 1: We will read "Violet the Pilot" and design, build, and fly our own airplanes.
Week 2: We will read "Super Submarines" and create a sinking and floating plastic egg sub.
Week 3: We will read "If I Built a Car" and design and build our own unique cars.

A list of supplies that we will need for our projects will be supplied each week.

External Resources

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Master's Degree in Education from Concordia University

“Teachers have three loves: love of learning, love of learners, and the love of bringing the first two loves together.” Learning should be fun and exciting for all children. I want to  ensure that children have all the skills to enjoy learning, to continue their natural curiosity and creativity, and to feel confident to explore their interests and express their ideas. I have a master’s of education in curriculum and instruction with a concentration in reading and a bachelor’s degree in education and psychology. I was lucky enough to homeschool my three wonderful children from kindergarten until they went to college. I’ve taught in private schools, tutorials, and I’ve been a reading interventionist, and preschool director. Most recently I’ve been tutoring and teaching classes online and working as a vision therapist.  I’m truly passionate about teaching and learning and I hope I can share that with children all over the world here on Outschool.
