In this 5 week FLEX Stock Market course , students will continue to practice their trading skills with $100,000 virtual cash to create and manage a virtual investment portfolio of real world stocks, bonds, and mutual funds.. Each student is responsible for researching and evaluating potential investments. Students will research the technical and fundamental analysis to make their investment decisions based the outlook of the company on whether to buy, sell, or hold the stocks, funds, and bonds in the portfolio they have created. Students will Lesson 1 Review the basic tools and resources about the stock market they learned in section 1.0. 🕳 Selecting Your Investments 🕳 Explain what a bond is and the pros and cons of investing in bonds 🕳 Understand the various factors that can influence bond prices such as interest rates 🕳 Identify the difference between an individual bond and a bond fund 🕳 Read a bond fund fact sheet Lesson 2 Managing Risk 🕳 Explain what risk is and its role in investing 🕳 Analyze effective strategies to manage investment risk 🕳 Identify which strategies you might use to manage risk when you start investing 🕳 Different types of Stock Market orders (market order, limit order, stop order, stop-limit order, stop-loss order) Lesson 3 - Investing into Funds 🕳 Stock performance of your trading 🕳 Explain the difference between active investing and passive investing 🕳 Identify a variety of popular investment funds including mutual funds, index funds, exchange traded funds, and target date funds 🕳 Read a fund fact sheet for an index fund and a target date fund Lesson 4 - Dive Deep Into Funds 🕳 Arrange companies to create a diversified mutual fund or index fund 🕳 Evaluate how the composition of a mutual fund or index fund is associated with risk and reward 🕳 Analyze the composition of the S&P 500 Lesson 5 Current events 🕳Return on Investments (ROI) - How to calculate your ROI from your simulation investment portfolio 🕳Graph your investment portfolio and compare it to S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average 🕳Evaluations of the strategies during the investment simulation game Select your investments based on diversification and learn how to diversify their stock market game portfolio by investing in companies in different sectors and industries. Students learn about diversification and how investing in different companies in different industries helps reduce risk and maintain a healthy portfolio. Students will understand that an informed investor must recognize the risks involved with every investment. Students will define and illustrate the three major kinds of risk. They will examine companies and assess their risk as investments. They will write a persuasive letter motivating or discouraging an investor from investing in a company they have researched. I spent a week with extensive interaction on the NYSE trading floor. My stock market game past participants earned 1st place in the state stock market game simulations with the highest percentage of profits competing against over 1200 teams.
