Yahoo Finance is used as the information source this assignments should take about 10 minutes to complete. What is Stock and how does the Stock Market work?
Explaining that companies can go public and join the stock market, and anyone in the public can invest by buying shares of stock (tiny pieces of ownership in the company. The goal of investing is to make money (buy low and sell high), and everyone needs to open an account with a Broker to enter stock orders.

Lesson 2:
How to find good stocks to invest? Let's get started with our stock game.
Showing students that we can find important information about companies using yahoo finance. This includes stock price trends, recent news about the company, and analyst opinions. Several companies are reviewed to showcase how we can use this information to make investment decisions. Then I provide instructions and examples about how to enter orders to buy and sell stock in our game. Students can use the game any time and it is an exact copy of the real stock market - same companies and prices.

Lesson 3:
How is your stock portfolio doing, why do stock prices change?
We review student's investment accounts in our stock game. This includes unrealized and realized profits and losses, broker fees, cash balances. We cover why stock prices go up and down (supply and demand), good news and bad news affects company's stock prices, and not to panic sell. The game lasts for 1 month after this final day of class.

To research stocks, company and economic news, we use Yahoo Finance (finance.yahoo.com). It is a free, well known and respected site for news and financial information. The investment game we use is howthemarketworks.com, which is the industry standard for teachers. It is used throughout the US and Canada to provide a simulation platform where students can safely invest in the stock market with fake money. No financial risk at all but a great learning experience of investing in real companies. We use Wall Street Survivor, and educational site with easy to follow, engaging videos on several investing topics such as stock indexes, fractional investing, unrealized gains and losses. Note: The game we use includes US stocks but students throughout the world know many of these famous companies (Apple, Amazon, Nike, Google, Tesla, Netflix, Disney).
All content used in this course is age appropriate and does not include any sensitive topics (political, sexual, violent, etc.).
Supply List
No materials need to be purchased. Students will need internet access for playing the stock market simulation game (see the web sites above) and to research company information and stock market news. . I will provide a template for students to use when they are considering a stock for investment.
