Students will learn how to closely read a poem with the intent of determining the authors purpose, as well as identifying literary devices that enable the author to communicate their purpose clearly. Students will make a text to world connection with the poem 'Still I Rise' and their own lives currently.
I studied English Literature and Black Studies for my undergraduate degree and have a passion for the role that literature plays in our lives. Through my years of teaching, I have learned that people learn from others experiences and developing the empathy to make connections with those experiences is essential to achieve meaningful learning.
