US Grade Preschool - 1
This 5-day STEAM summer camp invites learners to create art that puts STEM + Art to the test! Each class will provide learners with the opportunity to create something new. From silhouette art and elephants with working trunks to finger puppets and an amazingly detailed giraffe mask, we'll have a blast exploring animal science and art! Students will learn about Africa and how to transform common household items into masterpieces. These projects will serve as wonderful skill builders and confidence boosters as students experience the inevitable pride of seeing something they've made with their very own hands. Each class will include a short, usually less than 3 minutes, video. Projects may vary; however, the following is a sample schedule. Day 1 Hippo Finger Puppet We'll have a brief class discussion about hippopotamuses. Then, we'll use a paper, popsicle stick, coloring tools and a glue stick to create a neat hippo finger puppet. Day 2 Rhino Silhouette Painting We'll begin class with a discussion about the Black Rhinoceros. Then, we'll create a rhino silhouette painting using a canvas or art paper, paint, paper, and tape. Day 3 Elephant with Working Trunk We'll begin class with a discussion about the African Elephant. Then, we'll use paper, glue stick, and a straw to create an elephant with a working trunk Day 4 Clinging Lemur We'll begin class with a discussion Ring-tailed Lemur. Then, we'll use paper, clothes pin, glue stick, white glue and tape to create a clinging lemur. Day 5 Giraffe Mask We'll begin class with a discussion about Ugandan Giraffe. Then, we'll use paper, a glue stick, masking tape, ribbon, and popsicle stick to create an amazing giraffe mask. NOTE: Class requires a minimum of 5 students to move forward. If low enrollment becomes a concern, I'll reach out to parents directly with options that include a full refund.
Learning Goals
Students will learn geography and aspects of animal science. They'll also learn how to follow step by step instructions. They will practice fine motor skills and gain experience in using scissors, glue, paint, and other art supplies.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Most activities will be completed during the class time. However, a couple activities may need to dry overnight or require cutting to prep for the class. Also, parental guidance is required for the use of scissors.

ALL ACTIVITIES REQUIRE A PRINTER. Most activities will require scissors, cardstock, coloring implements, and glue. A comprehensive project-specific supply list will be sent about a week before class begins. Two activities require special items: a clothespin for the lemur craft and a small canvas for the rhino silhouette painting.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Sources
Videos may be shown only when they add value to illustrate a process or provide deeper understanding for learners. Generally, videos will be 1-3 minutes in length and seamlessly incorporated into the class discussion. No video will exceed 10% of the class time.

I’m a lifelong maker. When I was 4 years old, my mom, who stayed home with me, designated Tuesdays as craft day. I was elated! Growing up, we had a set of craft books with a volume for each letter from A to Z. On Tuesdays, I got to pick one craft out of the 1000s available. Then, my mom and I would make it together. I’ve been a maker ever since.
Many years later, I’m a homeschool mom whose love of making has only been enhanced by what I've learned in the many classrooms in which I've had the pleasure to attend or teach.
As an experienced Outschool teacher, I love helping students explore learning in a fun and immersive way. I’m excited to share my love of science and making with your learners. I can’t wait to see what we'll create together.
