This is a fun creative writing class wherein each week students build their own story within the Star Wars universe. This class is inclusive to students who consider themselves good writers as well as to those who may struggle to put their creativity on paper. The theme of Star Wars tends to ignite a child's imagination, making it easier for them to stay motivated as they write their stories. In each class, I will begin class by explaining an aspect of a writing style and some elements of style (grammar, voice, etc.). We will, then, cover a new story line/topic. We will brainstorm creative ideas and come up with a few that can be formed into a coherent story. I will create writing prompts for the class as a springboard for writing. The students will have some independent time to create their essays/stories (which can be continued as homework, if desired). There is no pressure on the children to write. The focus is to learn the process of channeling one's creativity into descriptive words, written or otherwise. Audio essays are welcomes as well. Students are encouraged to submit their stories if they wish to receive feedback on their writing. They can also post their stories in the classroom for everyone in class to enjoy reading. The topics will include everything within the Star Wars franchises both Canon and Legends (Star Wars, Clone Wars, Mandalorian, The Bad Batch, etc.). There is no carryover in topics and each class will be an independent class. Therefore, students may join and terminate their subscription at their convenience. The class is part instruction, part student led discussion, and part independent work. The goal is to provide a safe, fun, and encouraging environment for children to express their creativity in a written form. Due to the interactivity of the class, I require that students keep their cameras on unless agreed upon on prior consultation with me. Thank you for understanding.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Thank you for visiting my profile. I am a neuroscientist and educator. I enjoy teaching children about science - in particular, how science connects the world around us in ways we don't often think about. I try to encourage children to get excited about learning new concepts and to apply them in different situations. I teach classes on neuroscience, animal cognition, public health, and biology. I also enjoy hosting classes on Star Wars, and special topics of interest, mostly as requested by my own students!
I do animal research in the fields of neuroscience and psychiatry. I have 3 Master degrees - Clinical Psychology, Biopsychology, and Neuroscience. I completed my Masters (MS) and doctorate (Ph.D.) in Neuropharmacology from Texas Christian University and University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC). I then did two postdoctoral fellowships in Neuropsychopharmacology at Harvard Medical School. I was a university professor before joining a global pharmaceutical company.
My teaching philosophy is simple - I try to encourage children to be independent thinkers and to find connections in life about them. This will help them stay excited about learning and be life-long learners.
