US Grade 3 - 4
Calling all Mathematicians! We need your help!!! The STAR Students of Galaxy Elementary School are faced with not one, not two, not three, but EIGHT mysteries!! In this ongoing math escape/breakout room math mystery series students will learn about and practice 3rd grade math skills. All third grade math topics will be covered. This class is suited for students who are entering and prepare them for 3rd grade or if students are entering 4th grade, this will be a great review. These classes do not build on one another so students can participate in all classes or only the class(es) that cover topics that they are interested in. We will start as a whole class to read about the mystery at hand and get to know the STAR Students of Galaxy Elementary School. We will start as a whole class and I will teach a lesson on the given topic. I teach in a "to, with, by" gradual release model where I teach TO the students, then, practice problems WITH them to get them comfortable to work BY themselves as independent practice to secure the skills at hand. In the third portion of the class, I will send students a Google Slides where they will practice the skills taught and navigate a breakout / escape room independently, in their own breakout room. By answering problems correctly, they are able to move through to the next problem. They will not be able to move past a problem unless they get it correct. However, I am ALWAYS available for help. I will check in on students and give students the opportunity to let me know when they need help. This is the schedule of lessons: Week 1 - Wednesday, June 8th - Multiplication - The Case of the Missing Class Pet Week 2 - Wednesday, June 15th - Division - The Case of the Locked Candy Box Week 3 - Wednesday, June 22nd - Fractions - The Case of the Pizza Party Gone Wrong Week 4 - Wednesday, June 29th - Geometry - The Case of the Puzzling Puzzle Week 5 - Wednesday, July 13th - Time - The Case of the Missing Class Clock Week 6 - Wednesday, July 20th - Double Digit Addition - The Case of the Awesome Animal Adventure Week 7 - Wednesday, July 27th - Double Digit Subtraction - The Case of the School Celebration Shopping Spree Week 8 - Wednesday, August August 3rd - Area & Perimeter - The Case of the Pet Pen Problem Skills needed: Reading: Approximately third grade level Some background knowledge and experience with the topic at hand will be helpful. If students are experienced with these skills, this class would be a great and fun review for them! In addition to covering math topics, learners will have the opportunity to put their reading and critical thinking skills to practice as well! *This class runs best with at least 3 students. If there are less than 3 students, I am still happy to teach the class, but please note that the class might not run the full hour (the class is naturally longer with more students!). If you would prefer to be transferred to another section, please let me know at least 24 hours prior to the start of class.*
Learning Goals
Students will learn and practice: Multi-Digit Addition, Multi-Digit Subtraction, Multiplication, Division, Area, Perimeter, Fractions, Time, Graphing and Geometry.

Welcome! My name is Mrs. G and I am SO excited for the opportunity to work with children around the world through Outschool. I have a strong passion for giving children the best education possible and to make learning FUN! Ever since I began teaching, I feel incredibly fulfilled and I wake up excited every morning to go to school, NOT work. Teaching has never felt like a job to me, but a lifestyle; something that is just a part of who I am.
Through the platform of Outschool, I look forward to putting my own creativity to use and design fun, educational experiences. As of now, I am going to be teaching through the creative avenue of "escape rooms". Students will enter the fictional world of the STAR Students (Sophie, Trey, Anthony, and Rosa) of Galaxy Elementary School. These four students need the help of Outschool students to solve various mysteries that will be uncovered through clues. The only way to receive clues is by solving math problems and/or answering ELA questions. Outschool students will join the STAR students on an educational adventure during each one of my classes!!
I also have a strong passion for writing and specifically, supporting students by teaching strategies to help improve their writing. I love helping developing authors find their voice, creativity, and passion for writing!
A little bit about my professional background: I have experience as a third grade teacher of students with an IEP, Gifted and Talented students, and everyone in between. That being said, I am comfortable teaching a wide variety of grades and ages. While teaching, I served as my school's literacy and technology coach. This means I supported my colleagues as an instructional coach by providing professional development, coming into their classrooms to help their instruction, and opening my classroom doors for observation.
I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and Psychology, a minor in Early Childhood Education and a certificate in Leadership. In 2020, I also obtained a Master's degree in Educational Leadership with a supervisor and principal certificate.
In September, I gave birth to a baby girl! I am currently on maternity leave but I miss teaching so much that I am excited to have the opportunity to teach online!
