Students will learn strategies for writing and delivering family-friendly stand-up comedy. In class session 1, students will learn the following: How to locate source material for stand-up comedy routines How to find humor in the "every day" How to generalize experiences to make them relatable to audience members In class session 2, students will learn the following: How to write material with necessary pauses and effective delivery of "punch lines" How to create material that is funny and family appropriate How to use rhetorical questions and reflection as effective writing strategies In class session 3, students will learn the following: How to deliver material comfortably in front of a group of people How to connect to the audience How to present material authentically, without relying on notes During the 4th class, students will present their original comedy to the rest of the class. Students will be able to interact with me and each other via live class sessions. My teaching style is very informal and student-centered.
Learning Goals
Students will learn writing strategies for family-friendly comedy writing. Students will also learn strategies for delivery of original material via a stand-up comedy routine during the final class session.

All material will be created and presented under the guideline of being family-friendly.

Students will need materials for writing: either pen and paper or a computer.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been a teacher for 20 years. I have been trained in improv, comedy writing, and stand-up comedy. All of my material is
family- friendly, and I adhere to those guidelines in my teaching. I was invited to audition for Connecticut's Got Talent in 2019, I have performed stand-up locally since 2018, and I have taught improv to students.
