Learn about St Patrick’s Day by getting out your bucket drums, rhythm instruments, or body percussion! We will introduce each other, then get to learning! This is a fun class from an easygoing teacher. Student participation is desired but not required. This class uses a quarter note, a quarter rest, 2 eighth notes, and a half note. Students will learn or review these rhythms! We will learn fun facts for each of the 4 St Patrick’s Day symbols for more learning with slides and lecture from teacher. We will. practice the four 4/4 Time signature rhythms in 4 parts: Say the Word(s) Clap and Say the Rhythm Play it on your drum Play it with a steady beat We will learn to play layered rhythms together, adding one at a time. I'll share four posters to help students, them ask them read then play the rhythm they are assigned. Then students will compose new rhythms by adding them together. If we have time we will identify line and space notes or treble staff notes, depending on the learning level of students. At the end of class we will jam out and discuss which rhythms we liked best and which are the trickiest! No previous knowledge of music rhythms is needed for this class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from Wichita State University
Hi! I'm "ViolinJudy," Mrs. Judy Naillon, and I LOVE TEACHING MUSIC! I'm a Professional Violinist and have played with many ensembles, including the Wichita Symphony for over 20 years. I'm a Piano and Violin Teacher with 25 + years experience teaching both in person and virtually! In my free time I write Violin music books, and biographies of composers for kids in my "Very Interesting Life of" series which are available on Amazon.
I have a private teaching studio with MANY Violin, Piano, and Ukulele students so I have limited availability, if you message me I go through my waiting list each week trying to connect learners with any spots that have opened up! I am a master teacher, and have had the amazing opportunity to also work for Alfred's Music Publishers, one of the largest music publishers in the world.
I enjoy teaching beginners through advanced music students with my professional studio setup, and am experienced in teaching ages 3 through adult students. I use a combination of tried and true teaching methods like Suzuki, along with note reading skill building to help my students learn to play music they love. I always have a quick music theory game to engage my music students. My virtual students also benefit from the many educational videos I post for them to my YouTube channel.
I love keeping up with current events and usually read 2-3 newspapers every day from around the world. I enjoy sharing some of these stories in my "breakfast club" weekday morning meet-up and genuinely love getting to know my students. My guilty pleasures are watching til-tok videos and enjoying good chocolate. I love to play the Spelling Bee game from The New York Times Crossword App and try to get to genius every day! I also used to work for our local NPR station and love public radio!
I am blessed to have a wonderful husband, a cute, well behaved mini golden doodle puppy and an amazing daughter who plays many musical instruments and has learned French from Outschool!
