SSAT Math Prep Course (Ongoing): Middle Level
What's included
1 live meeting
45 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
US Grade 4 - 7
Throughout these weekly sessions over the course of the fall, students will learn by following steps on how to solve SSAT Math practice problems. They will be able to interact with the teacher and others by discussing which ways they want to approach the problem, and if they are stuck, the teacher will start off the problem and guide the students on the necessary steps to solve! The class structure will consist of doing drill problem sets from the official practice SSAT Math Section of the Exam. Each week will include a different set of sample problems. There are two Quantitative (Math) Sections on an SSAT Exam, each 25 minutes. In this ongoing course, your child will be able to test their ability to solve problems involving arithmetic, elementary algebra, geometry, and other concepts, since these are the main focuses of the SSAT. The class session topics will be learner-directed week-to-week. Week of July 25st - Pre-Algebra & Algebra. Week of August 1st - Number Concepts & Conversion Week of August 8th - Statistics & Probability and Geometry Week of August 15th - Data Analysis and Measurement. These topics will follow in the flow of the SSAT Practice test that the class will be following. Therefore, each week will be dictated by whichever problem the class left off on from the previous week. This course will be learner-directed, as we will go at a comfortable pace dependent on the students, covering as many topics/ problems as we can each session. My philosophy is to PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE, and that is what we will be doing during drill problems as it allows students to acquire better intuition for the test! This way, as they become more familiar with the types of questions asked, they will spend less time thinking about how to approach the problem and more time focusing on the content of the exam. Over this course, students will be able to develop patterns and acquire different techniques to solving problems and saving time!
Learning Goals
Students will be able to improve their problem solving skills for the SSAT Math Exam and gain a better grasp as to how to approach these problems when it comes down to taking the real test on their own by PRACTICING!

I am offering this SSAT Math Prep Course because I understand the frustration of students coming from different backgrounds and schools not having the same level of material taught to come together and take one national exam. I have been teaching and privately tutoring for years, from elementary school all the way up to college level math and physics. I have also privately tutored standardized test prep for exams such as the SSAT, PSAT, and SAT. In doing so, I learnt that what makes a significant improvement in scores is PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE. I received a near perfect score on the regular SAT Math section when I took it not too long ago (97.5th percentile) and want to share those tools I have with students taking any standardized exam such as the SSAT!
