40 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
In this weekly social club for Squishmallow lovers, learners will draw a cute Squishmallow with step by step instruction. They will practice basic drawing skills while having fun. During our drawing session, we will discuss shapes, size, and structure. During the painting portion of the session we will experiment and take risks with some new art techniques. We will be using watercolor paint, but other paint is also acceptable. We will be flexible with materials. We will also play a Squishmallow BINGO game each week. The Bingo game will need to be downloaded prior to class. You may print just one or two of the Bingo game boards. The social club structure allows the same learners to meet every week, creating a familiar and supportive environment. They will also exercise important social skills through talking about their art and taking turns. The social club does not build on prior lessons, so learners can enroll or leave at any time. However, seating is limited so if you leave for a week, there is no guarantee that there will be an available seat. What will my child learn? - Listening and following directions. - Details are important... or are they really? - Be supportive of others. - Mistakes happen and we can work around and through them. - Produce a piece of unique art. Class Structure: - Learners meet and great each other - Introduction of the Squishmallow of the week. - Draw and paint Squishmallow of the week. - Gallery time to share our creations. - Brief open time to add to our drawings. - Squishmallow Bingo Game During the draw along, learners are encouraged to hold up their drawing to the camera for feedback. Questions are strongly encouraged throughout the lesson. We will work on taking turns, providing feedback to each other, and using manners to make all feel welcome and appreciated. Teacher expertise and credentials
Maryland Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
I have recently retired from 34 years of teaching. My professional background includes teaching 4-10 year old scholars, providing professional support for teachers in the elementary school, and supporting schools in their mission to grow parent and family engagement. I'm recently retired and am going back to what I love to do. ART, PAINTING, & LEARNING! In my early years as a pre-college learner I was a National Distinguished Scholar in the Arts in the state of Maryland. I decided not to pursue a degree in Art, but to pursue a degree in Elementary Education. Throughout my years as a teacher, I would often accompany my class to Art, and create art with them. I also included a lot of art in my first and second grade classrooms. Art is very important to me and I know that it is something that really brings out the spark in many young scholars. I hope to continue to encourage and enhance that spark in young learners. I also teach classes for young readers to encourage a life long love of reading and literacy. My professional background includes over 10 years in the primary elementary grades as well as 20 years as a professional literacy coach for teachers and staff. My most recent years include parent engagement duties at the district level where I supported staff, students, and families. I believe that all children can learn and my own love of learning, reading, and literature comes through in all of my interactions with students and families. I believe that reading is the most important skill that a person can possess and I believe that the process should be fun and engaging.
