Spring & Easter STEAM Camp (Ages 3-5)

In this fun 3-day class, engage in STEM using things you can find in most Easter baskets. Apply early engineering skills to build a raft for peeps, race eggs down a ramp, and observe a fun science experiment!

Class Experience

The first class session will open with a short show and tell to introduce learners to their classmates and get them comfortable with each other and the teacher. Then, each meeting will follow this format: the teacher will introduce the goal and guidelines for each activity. After a brief planning and question period, everyone will jump right in and complete the following STEAM-based activities:

Day 1: Plastic egg ramp races using cardboard scraps

Day 2: Peep float using toothpicks and jellybeans/gumdrops/marshmallows in a tub of water

Day 3: Plastic egg rockets with alka-seltzer tablets and water

During each activity, we will discuss the goals of the activity and how to test and make improvements as you work!

The teacher will encourage reflection and conversation using the following prompts:
- How could you improve your design?
- If you could start over, what would you do differently?
- What other materials could you use to complete this challenge

Learning Goals

Students will apply early STEM concepts (science, technology, engineering, and math) as they work through the engineering design process and scientific method during each activity.
