Being comfortable with spreadsheets is an important skill for our ever changing world. They are all around us, and necessary in multiple settings. In this camp, we will explore the basics of spreadsheets, and some of the most popular uses. Beginners will learn how to input, modify, and sort data; use formulas; create charts; and make things look “nice” through formatting. This class will use Numbers on the iPad for demonstrative purposes, but we will go over any key differences between the main spreadsheet software programs: Numbers, Excel, and Google Sheets. Our schedule of learning will be: Day 1 - What is a spreadsheet? - Headers - Inputting and changing data. - Adding columns and rows, moving columns and rows, and resizing for the data. - Sorting data. Day 2 - Numbers - Basic formulas. - Currencies, dates, and times. - Sorting data (part 2). Day 3 - Make it pretty, make it bigger! - Formatting fonts. - Footers. - Wrapping text vs merging cells. - Multiple sheets. Day 4 - Charts - Creating bar, line, and pie charts. - When to use a chart?
Learning Goals
Students will have a basic understand and proficiency with some of the most common uses of spreadsheets. They will be able to create and manipulate a spreadsheet to serve a specific purpose.
