We will meet once per week for a six-week camp to solve word problems using statistics from baseball, football, basketball and more. We will use numbers to learn addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, and fractions!

My goal is to create a meaningful, comfortable, social learning environment where students discuss interesting topics and connect with each other. In this class, students will engage in word problems from different sports. Over the course of six weeks, we will discuss addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and fractions. We will use real-life examples from the sports universe. Below is a breakdown of what we will cover over the course of the class: Weeks 1-3 (3 classes): We will begin with introductions and an explanation of the course. We will talk about how to read and analyze word problems in addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractions. Students will solve problems and explain their reasoning. Week 4-6 (3 classes): Students will build on their knowledge from Weeks 1-3 and incorporate more advanced concepts to their addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractions skills. Math can be frustrating. However, it can be fun when it's connected to something relatable.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractions while solving multi-step word problems.
