US Grade 3 - 6
This class is for students who don't mind adding some disturbing and spine-tingling facts to their science learning. We will explore all the details behind some gruesome phenomena in nature. Our discussion will take us into these revolting realms: Firstly; blood. We will learn about an animal that eats blood and one that uses blood as a defense mechanism. Next; mind control. We will learn how the Lancet liver fluke takes control of an ant's mind in order to complete its life cycle. Then, onto another parasite that makes itself at home in the body of an unsuspecting clownfish. Lastly; eating habits. We will find out the sneaky and disturbing way remipedes prepare their dinner. Learners will see real-life photos and videos throughout the class. They will learn vocabulary and the scientific explanations behind these bizarre stories. This isn't a dry lecture; everyone is welcome to share their knowledge and opinions! At the end of class, we will have a trivia quiz to see how many creepy facts learners can recall.
Learning Goals
Students will learn about hematophagy, blood as a defense mechanism, parasitism, and the eating habits of the only venomous crustacean.

Minnesota Teaching Certificate in English/Language Arts
Hello! Thank you for stopping by! I love students of all ages and I love teaching a variety of topics. Some of my favorite classes to teach are reading, nature, and science. I try to create a positive and encouraging atmosphere so learners feel comfortable in participating. I want students to have fun while learning!
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree from Minnesota State University, a Minnesota teaching license, and a 160 hour TEFL certification.
I have been teaching and guiding children since 2000 as a preschool/childcare provider, an ELA teacher in public school classrooms, and an ESL teacher in online classrooms.
I love teaching, but I also love being a student! I take as many classes as possible on whatever subject piques my interest. Teaching and learning are my life!
When my three daughters are home from college we love going for hikes, cooking together, and of course, snuggling our two funny cats, Pumpkin and Marigold.
I hope to see your learner in class!
