I often tell children, “if you can read, you can do anything”. Truth be told, to even answer a math question requires reading. Often when a child cannot read well, they become overwhelmed and may act out or withdraw. In this ongoing, weekly class, I will work with your student one-on-one on all things reading and writing. For each class, the student will be encouraged to bring current work with them to class so we can master current expectations. I will also consistently introduce them to new words to expand their vocabulary. Additionally, we will work on reading comprehension, language arts and writing skills. If your child has a book(s) they would like to read together I am happy to read along and engage in conversation with them helping to ignite a passion for reading as well as using the opportunity to expand on life skills/concepts based on the reading. While we all learn from non-fiction books, we can learn so much from fiction about life and more! I look forward to working with your student. My teaching style is patient, engaging, and interactive. I work very hard to engage students during class. I look forward to working with your student.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Doctoral Degree in Education from Liberty University
I have a passion for teaching children how to read. Reading can take us on great adventures to places we may never get to see outside of our minds. I believe information is the great equalizer. Without good reading, information is nearly impossible to obtain. I have tutored children in reading for more than 20 years and have taught English and reading to children in China online for the last 3.5 years. I enjoy working with young students introducing them to the world of spelling and reading. I am an avid reader myself. My hope is to help your child get on a reading path that can open their world and their future. Researchers tell us when students can read well, they can accomplish so much more. My teaching style is patient, engaging, and interactive. I work very hard to engage students during class.
I have spent my life working with children and adults of diverse ages, experiential, educational, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds. I have a Master’s in counseling and am a Doctoral Candidate for a Doctorate in Education. Please see my full biography under my information.
