Class Experience

Why is "LUNCH" is spelled with a 'CH', but "CLUTCH" is spelled with "TCH"?

In this engaging class, students will learn the CH-TCH spelling rule which they can rely on when spelling the /ch/ sound. This is the third class in a series of stand-alone spelling classes which will explain some excellent spelling rules that can help students make sense of English words and become better spellers.

This class will introduce the "CH-TCH" spelling rule and give several examples. The students will have an opportunity to practice using the spelling rule to spell both real and nonsense words. Spelling nonsense words is a great way to ensure the student fully understands the spelling rule because they will have no prior "visual memory" of the word. By the end of the class, students will no longer have to guess which letter to use to spell the /ch/ sound!

Students should have some basic reading skills as they will be asked to read the words being spelled. However, students do not need to be strong readers to be successful in this class. In fact, these spelling classes will help students become stronger readers as well!
