I will send out the spelling words one week ahead of time for those that wish to study before class. There will also be worksheets you can print for extra practice after class. These do not need to be turned back in, but are for your extra practice.Class Experience
US Grade 1 - 3
This class is designed for first and second graders. Kindergartners and third graders may enroll if you feel that your child is advanced or needs extra help. I keep class sizes small, no more than 4 kids per class. This means your child will have more opportunities to participate. This class will run if at least 2 students are enrolled. The first 10 minutes of class I will introduce 10 spelling words. These will be posted in the classroom a week in advance for students who would like to study ahead of time. (I also include additional worksheets you can print for extra practice after class). We will then play a game for 15 minutes. I will ask the students to write down each spelling word as we find them. They can use a piece of paper/pencil, a whiteboard/marker, or type the words in the chat-box. I always have the chat-box set so that I am the only one that sees what they type. The last 5 minutes of class I will go over 2-3 worksheets the students can do at home for extra practice. These are optional and I do not ask for them to be returned when finished. Lesson 1: AR (R-controlled vowel) Game: X-Marks the Spot Lesson 2: OR (R-controlled vowel) Game: This or That Lesson 3: ER, IR, UR (R-controlled vowels) Game: Car Race Lesson 4: OW (digraph and diphthong, Ex: Crow/Owl) Game: Grow a Flower Garden Lesson 5: OI vs. OY (diphthong) Game: Flip a Coin Lesson 6: AU vs. AW (diphthong) Game: Claw Machine Lesson 7: ST and SP (S-blends) Game: Monster Sports Transportation Lesson 8: SC vs. SK (S-blends) Game: Books at School Lesson 9: SN, SM, and SW (S-blends) Game: Sniff test- Smelly or Sweet Lesson 10: Prefixes Game: Movie Previews Lesson 11: Basic plural endings (including words ending in F) Game: Animal Habitats Lesson 12: Plurals when a word ends in Y Game: Fruit Ninja Lesson 13: Adding ING to words ending in E Game: Magicians and Genies Lesson 14: When to double a consonant before adding a vowel suffix (1-1-1 rule) Game: Baseball Lesson 15: Hard and Soft G Game: Draw a Dragon Lesson 16: Hard and Soft C Game: Ice Cream Cones and Cookies Lesson 17: C or K before a vowel (Ex: Cat, Kitten) Game: Jeopardy Lesson 18: Final K sound (C, K, KE, C) Game: Pick a Snack

Teacher expertise and credentials
Arizona Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Bachelor's Degree in Education from Arizona State University
Hello! My name is Julie and I live in Arizona. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Arizona State University in 2005. I also have a current teaching certificate in the state of Arizona. For the past 3 years I have taught English as a second language.
I love teaching on Outschool. I create and tweak my lessons until they become the kind of classes I would have liked to take as a kid. Currently I spelling classes. I keep my age ranges within 3 years, and class sizes no higher than 5 students. I feel it’s important to keep class sizes small so each learner receives more opportunities to participate.
Please feel free to message me with any questions. I usually respond the same day.
