Class Experience
*Because I know how important a good connection is between the student and teacher, I am happy to offer a $5 discount on your first class with me. Use the code: SAINT9SQVW5 when enrolling!* Who doesn't love a good guessing game? In this fun and interactive class, students will become word detectives. Each week, children will be given a set of letters and an opportunity to discover more about letter-sound relationships and how these relationships work in words. These activities will help students increase their reading and spelling abilities. I will present a new group of words each month, so this class can be taken monthly for a new set of phonics words, sounds, and learning! Each week, students will watch a fun video (15-20 minutes) where the teacher will provide engagement and invitations to participate (wait time) in spelling numerous words. Following this viewing and interactive spelling time, students will choose the correct spelling usages in two fun games of Kahoot!, use what they've learned in a printable word sort activity, practice in a word game on the computer, and interact with the teacher and peers in a challenge activity via FlipGrid! Because it is a flexible schedule course there are NO LIVE CLASSES. I will post materials on Sunday by 5pm (MST) and learners will be responsible for watching lecture videos, interacting with the teacher and classmates in classroom Kahoot! activities, and on FlipGrid as they take the class. I encourage my students to get to know each other through the online classroom and welcome any questions and comments about the material at any time! Every Sunday, by 5pm MST, I will post the materials needed for the week. During each video lecture, please plan to interact! Bring your letters and be ready to spell with me! After the video learning, you can choose one of the several activities to practice and refine your spelling each day. Throughout the week, I will check in and see how we are all progressing, and will be available should any questions arise!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Colorado Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Bachelor's Degree in Education from University of Colorado, Denver
My goal as an educator is to inspire a love of lifelong learning and to hold students accountable to their individual highest potential until they are able to hold this view for themselves. I have 14 years of experience in various educational settings, including elementary education, high school extracurricular coach and choreographer, volunteer in preschool classrooms, and online as a teacher of English as a second language. I hold a BA in Elementary Education through the University of Colorado at Denver and a current Colorado State Professional Teaching License.
I love fostering a lifelong love of reading. I offer classes for students in phonics, reading comprehension and reading fluency. I also love helping students enjoy and understand math and science. I offer classes structured to improve number sense, math fluency, and problem solving, and critical thinking. My teaching style is marked by patience, gentleness, and genuine interest for those in my care. Children will always be encouraged to ask questions, make mistakes, and enjoy learning! My greatest asset as a teacher is adapting quickly to the needs and skills of my students.
Beyond teaching, I am a fully invested mother of two, and happily married wife. I love to knit, read, take walks with my doggie and play board games with my kids. I currently reside in Arvada, Colorado.
Policies:
1) I aim to keep classes close to the scheduled amount of time, however, classes with low enrollments or especially talkative students may run a few minutes under or a few minutes over.
2) Classes will begin at the scheduled time, even if all learners are not in the classroom (unless there appears to be a technical issue). I will not contact absent learners during class time so I can focus on the learners who are present.
3) If no learners are in the classroom, I will wait 10 minutes before exiting the classroom. In this situation, I will contact the families after I have left the classroom to discuss next steps.
