Spell & Read: 3-Letter-Words (Multi-Day Class)
What's included
6 live meetings
3 hrs 30 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
Each class will focus on discussing the letters in, sounding out, blending, creating, and writing “consonant-vowel-consonant” words — with focus on cvc words of one vowel per class. *** This class is likely the best fit for students who are able to recognize the letters of the alphabet and know most of the letter sounds, since we will be putting 3 letter sounds together to blend/read 3-letter words. Using pictures (which students will have a print-out of), the teacher will model and guide students as to how to sound out and recognize the letters of the word in the picture (consonant-vowel-consonant), focusing on a particular vowel for that class. Students will create the word with the material for the week, and will also have the opportunity to practice writing the cvc words. . . . Research behind multi-sensory learning shows that young students learn best through play and actively engaging in their learning. These hands-on, multi-sensory activities are not only developmentally appropriate, but can enhance students' memory and ability to learn--by involving their kinesthetic-tactile sense as they create words in different ways! In advance of each upcoming class, I will confirm the type of material that will be needed and the specific vowel that we will be working on in that class for our cvc words, by communicating this via the classroom page. . . . Class Schedule: 1. "Short a" CVC words ~ Red & Blue markers 2. "Short e" CVC words~ Play Doh 3. "Short i" CVC words~ Letters (magnetic, letter tiles, paper letters) 4. "Short o" CVC words ~ Watercolor paint & white crayon 5. "Short u" CVC words ~ Markers/crayons 6. "Crack the code" CVC words~ pencil/scissors/glue
Learning Goals
Emergent readers will learn how to spell, sound-out, and read 3 letter sounds together in the consonant-vowel-consonant pattern (for each of the 5 vowels: a, e ,i, o, and u).
