Description

Class Experience

I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Language Education.
I have spoken Spanish for 18 years.
I lived in Mexico for 6 years, where I used Spanish in everyday life.
I hold a TEFL certificate.
I have taught foreign language online since 2014.
Homework will be OPTIONAL, and assigned on a weekly basis in the virtual classroom at the teacher's discretion. I will not ask students to do any reading outside of class. I may assign homework, I may not. Homework will be printable worksheets, that I custom design, with different activities designed for kids to get more practice with the vocabulary learned in class.
Students will not need anything special for this class. They will only need a working electronic device that can operate both Zoom and the Nearpod website. I recommend that students bring a pencil and a notebook to class, to write down new vocabulary. Alternatively, their parents can print out the vocabulary list for them, which I'll provide each day in advance.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Assessment for this class is informal. I don't give out letter grades. I do, however, like to write a message to parents after each lesson and outline what the child is doing well, and what they can improve upon. If the group class is large, I may choose to write assessment for the children as a group in the virtual classroom. I will not publicly criticize students in front of classmates. For example, there is an ocassional quiz in our review lessons. These quizzes have letter grades, but these grades are always kept private, and they are not given out as grades for the entire course. It is just feedback so the student knows how he/she is doing.
25 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Please note that I use Nearpod for my lessons. Nearpod is a website that allows teachers to create slide presentations with interactive activities for students. A link will be provided via the Zoom chat box during the live class to access Nearpod. I will also provide the necessary 5 digit code to access the lesson. If students wish, I can also provide them with a link to access the lesson on their own time after class.

Please note that I cannot provide Zoom links for students to enter the session. Outschool does not allow this.

TECHNOLOGY NOTE

Children should be able to handle technological functions like accessing the Zoom chat box, turning on or off their microphone on Zoom, clicking a link to open the Nearpod website, navigating to the Nearpod website, and opening a new tab on their internet browser to see the Nearpod website. They should be able to click answers to questions on their screens. It would also be good for them to know how to navigate between Zoom and an external website, since they'll need to do this during class to participate in the Nearpod games.

SKILLS REQUIRED

Students need to be able to read to participate in this class. Students should also be able to write down their own vocabulary lists, either before or during the lesson, or their parents can print out the vocabulary list for them. They'll need the list to do many of the activities and play the games during the live class.
