**NEW classes starting in August 2024 (from the beginning of the curriculum)** ¡𝐁𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐝𝐨𝐬 𝐚 𝐥𝐚 𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐝𝐞 𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐚ñ𝐨𝐥! 𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬! Spanish 1-B is full of fun activities, comprehensible stories, and engaging lessons. This is a beginner level course for learners with some experience with the Spanish basics. In this ongoing class, we will meet twice a week to explore new topics in Spanish! This course will be divided into multiple units, which are listed below. The topics covered in Spanish 1-B are similar to those taught during the 2nd semester of a traditional Spanish 1 class. 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝟏-𝐁 𝐂𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐮𝐦 • Unit 1: En el zoológico ↳ zoo animals, ver, estar, directional phrases • Unit 2: ¡Hay que estudiar el Español! ↳ languages, hablar, places you'd study, estudiar • Unit 3: ¿Cómo estás hoy? ↳ estar, feelings (like nervios@, sorprendid@, cansad@, etc.) • Unit 4: Vamos al estadio ↳ sports, jugar, correr, practicar, hacer ejercicio, saber • Unit 5: Me gustan las frutas ↳ gusta vs gustan, food • Unit 6: Mi familia es especial ↳ family, articles, "de" to show possession, possessive adjectives, vivir • Unit 7: ¿Qué hora es? ↳ time, classes in school • Unit 8: Siempre escucho música ↳ adverbs of frequency, common -AR, -ER, and -IR verbs • Unit 9: ¿Vamos en carro o vamos a pie? ↳ places around town, modes of transportation, querer, ir, necesitar • Unit 10: Mi casita ↳ rooms in a house, objects in rooms, chores • Unit 11: Tener Idioms ↳ Tengo hambre y tengo sed 𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫? • Experienced beginner - a learner who has already been introduced to the basics of the language (colors, feelings, letter sounds, numbers, greetings, animals, etc), and even some simple sentence patterns. This learner can answer in complete sentences with some memorized phrases (saying how they feel, saying how old they are, saying where they're from, etc.), but still needs to master putting complete sentences together about common, everyday topics. • Students who have taken my Spanish 1-A course, or have a similar amount of Spanish experience. • Students who are taking Spanish 1 in school (or another equivalent course) and would like to reinforce what they are learning in school, or get extra practice outside of their normal Spanish class • Students who are taking Spanish 2 in school (or another equivalent course), and would like to review/practice the basics. ***Curriculum of each class/unit subject to change at teacher discretion or per the needs/interests of the students in the class ***Not an immersion class, but an effort will be made to stay in the target language when appropriate, and to encourage students to also communicate in Spanish ***The content of these classes should be accessible to new learners who join in any given week. Please feel free to message me if you would like to know where a specific section is at in the curriculum
Learning Goals
• To successfully gain a basic introduction to the Spanish language
• To encourage a desire for students to continue learning Spanish

Parental Guidance
1. Students should know how to use Zoom including muting/unmuting, and accessing the chat (to send the teacher a message and/or respond to a message from the teacher). If a student is not comfortable doing these things, a parent/guardian should be nearby to assist them if needed.
2. Students should feel comfortable clicking a link given in the chat to access an external resource (such as a google slides activity or quizlet vocabulary game). If a student is not comfortable doing these things, a parent/guardian should be nearby to assist them if needed.
3. We will often be playing an interactive game (Gimkit or Blooket) or doing an interactive activity to review and practice the content of lesson. Whenever we do this, I will post a direct link to the game/activity in the Zoom chat. Students will need to be able to click the link provided, which will open up the game/activity in an internet browser's tab. Students will need to feel comfortable navigating back and forth as needed between the game/activity and Zoom. Or students can access the game/activity via a 2nd electronic device, like a tablet or phone. They will go to their internet app and type in the link to join in their internet browser's web address area. A parent/guardian might be needed to assist with this.
4. At Outschool we care deeply about our learners’ safety and privacy. In this class, we will occasionally use Third Party Tools to enhance student learning. As an educator on Outschool, I strive to meet all requirements of COPPA when it comes to external teaching tools that may be used with learners under 13 years old. Please review external resources that will be used in this course - all resources are approved by Outschool and/or have been self-vetted and do not require students to create accounts or give out personal information (like an email address). Please feel free to message me about any of the external resources we might use in this class.
***I do not share class recordings out of an effort to be cautious and to protect students and their privacy.
