This class is taught in English and is not meant to be a full immersion class. This class is designed to be a softer approach to learning Spanish. Students should feel comfortable expressing themselves in Spanish with explanations in English as needed. During this 8 week course, students will study vocabulary and grammar typically covered in the second quarter of Spanish 1. Topics include introductions, common questions, describing location, using prepositional phrases, food terms, places to go to, and regular and irregular verb conjugations. Students will be provided with vocabulary and grammar as well as practice sheets. This course will be taught primarily using Google slides. Students will complete projects for each section. Students will also engage in simple conversations based the the vocabulary for that section. Periodically throughout the course, students will participate in a virtual escape room that will cover all of the information they have learned up to that point. The following shows the material that will be covered and about how long we will spend on each section. This course is split into 4 sections. Each Section will lead into the next section. Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Brandi Guzman. I have a BA in Spanish with P-12 teacher certification. I have been teaching Spanish for 12 years. I spent 10 years teaching middle and high school Spanish in a traditional classroom. I have also taught Spanish enrichment classes at the elementary level. I enjoy teaching students of all ages. I have traveled extensively and this has given me an interesting perspective on what it means to know a second language. I am not a native Spanish speaker. I had to learn, and continue to practice to become proficient in Spanish. I understand the challenges that come with learning a second language. My goal is to inspire students to learn about different cultures, travel, and put into practice what they are learning.
