Spanish Club - upper elementary (3rd-6th) Beginning Spanish

We will learn beginning Spanish in this ongoing class. You can join at any time. I will continue to list classes as long as interest remains high.. It is NOT a prerequisite for you to complete previous classes. Jump in at anytime.

Class Experience

We will learn beginning Spanish in this ongoing class.  You may enroll at any time. 
Week 1  - The goal will be to learn how to say several animals in Spanish.  The students will also learn how to say which animal is their favorite, and if they have a pet. We will also practice colors and a few numbers in this lesson.
Week 2 - The students will learn some basics foods and drinks in Spanish.  They will learn to say I like to eat/drink _______. They will also learn how to say I am hungry.
Week 3 - I have added a second week of foods.  We need two weeks to learn foods.
Week 4  - We will learn the parts of the body in Spanish, we will learn head shoulders, knees, and toes too. We will play Simon Says in Spanish with body parts.
Week 5- We will learn family members in Spanish.  We will practice saying who is in our family. We will practice a few numbers.
Week 6 - We will learn many different emotions in Spanish and work with the verb estar. We will learn how to say where we are. We will do some basic greetings.
Week 7 - We will learn the name of common school supplies, and play a little game to see what I have in my backpack.  Learners will also have a school scavenger hunt. We will review colors as well.
Week 8 - we will practice the verbs tener and querer (to have and to want). We will have many opportunities to use these verbs in simple sentences.
Week 9 - will be a continuation of week 8. 
Week 10 - We will work on telling time and some basics with weather. This will be a good review of numbers up to 30.
Week 11 - We will work on days of the week, months, of the year, and all of the calendar basics. We will do numbers to 30. We will practice how to say some basic addition and subtraction problems in Spanish.
Week 12 - we will work on the Spanish alphabet. We will sing it, learn a few words with each letter. Do a scavenger hunt, and practice spelling our names in Spanish.
Learning Goals
Week 1 - The goal will be to learn how to say several animals in Spanish.  The students will also learn how to say which animal is their favorite, and if they have a pet.
Week 2 and 3- The students will learn some basics foods and drinks in Spanish.  They will learn to say I like to eat/drink _______. They will also learn how to say I am hungry.
Week 4- We will learn the body parts needed for head, shoulders, knees, and toes. We will also learn other basic body parts.  We will also learn some clothing in this lesson. 
Week 5 - The goal is to learn how to say mom, dad, brother, sister, grandma, grandpa, aunt, uncle, and cousin in Spanish.  Then, we will learn to say how many we have.
Week 6 - The goal is to learn to conjugate estar and learn how to say many different emotions to reflect how we feel.
Week 7- We will learn to name many different school supplies and play a game where I pull one out of my backpack and students will race to buzz in and answer what I have.
Week 8 & 9 - we will learn to say I want and I have. We will learn some new vocabulary to make simple sentences. This may be my favorite lesson! We get to put it all together!
Week 10 - telling time and counting to 30.
Week 11 - days of the week, months, and when their birthday is.
Week 12- sing the abcs in Spanish and learn to spell using the correct letters

I have a degree in elementary education and a minor in Spanish.  I have taught kindergarten through 8th grade.  I taught 4th and 8th grade Spanish as well as being a normal classroom teacher. I love early elementary and I love Spanish, so this class is my happy place!  I also have lived in a few Spanish speaking countries.
