Class Experience

Please note: There are no live meetings for this class.

Welcome to a course designed for aspiring songwriters seeking to refine their skills in crafting and producing original music.

Guided by their unique artistic voices, students will be mentored on how to channel their creativity into music making. I always had music flowing through me but it was learning the tools, theories, and processes that set my creative expression free.

Students will have access to 12 recorded lessons. I am available thourghout the 12 weeks to answer any questions. I am also available weekly to offer feedback on the music you are working on. If you feel you need more than the 12 weeks allotted, let me know and I'm happy to work at your pace.

The goal is to come out of this class with a fully performable song or recording.

***While some background in music is recommended, no prior experience in songwriting is necessary.***

Syllabus

12 Lessons
over 12 Weeks
Lesson 1:
Intro / Demonstration
To start things off I will be showcasing a recorded project of mine. I will discuss my workflow from an original idea to a fully produced recording.
Lesson 2:
Intro To Bandlab
Students will be given an overview of Bandlab. It will mainly be used to capture ideas and song sketches. This can be done with the built-in computer microphone. As we go over other topics in the next few weeks the students will be encouraged to keep exploring ways to utilize its potential before I go into more depth of its features.
Lesson 3:
What Kind Of Songwriter Are You?
Songwriting comes in many shapes and sizes. Do you start with chords on piano or guitar? Do you start with lyrics.? Do you start with a melody in your head? What do you do from there? In this class, we will explore a few common ways songs are put together
Lesson 4:

From The Beatles to Billie Eilish there is still a common thread in how songs are constructed. Here we will analyze classic song forms as well as unusual examples
