1 hour per week. Practice is provided to learners after each new topic is introduced. The practice includes detailed answer keys for self-checking. Additionally, we will have about 5 minutes near the beginning of the following session for questions that came up while completing the practice. I'm available to answer questions by Outschool message between classes. I don't check or grade the homework individually.Assessment
Optional Google forms quizzes are provided at checkpoints during the class. These are self-checking. The scores do not come to me. The learner is able to see what the score is and what problems were missed along with the correct answers.Class Experience
US Grade 8 - 10
Solving equations is foundational to success in Algebra. So, let's really understand how to solve! We'll start at the beginning and work through more complicated equations. Session 1-one and two step equations Session 2-multi-step equations, including distributive property and combining like terms Session 3-equations with variables on both sides Session 4-equations with fractions Session 5-literal equations Session 6-mixed review and additional practice of all types of equations in this course I use scaffolded instruction, which simply means that I provide more support at the beginning and gradually learners work more and more independently with each new problem. I provide guidance and feedback throughout each session. Learners will be provided with reference sheets. Additionally, students will receive practice problems (with detailed answer keys). We'll have some time to go over specific practice questions near the beginning of the next session. I'm a high school math teacher with a master’s degree in Education, and I specialize in working with students who struggle with math. Questions? Always feel free to message me here on Outschool.

Pre-Requisites
Learners should be enrolled in Pre-Algebra or above.
Supply List
Students are required to bring a pencil and notebook paper (or write on a tablet/ipad). Additionally, students should have a calculator with them that is not the standard phone calculator. I highly recommend the TI 30XS Multiview for its use of square roots. Message me if you'd like a link to order it from Amazon (approximately $20). Students will need to download and/or print the provided pdf's I will share throughout the class.

Is your learner failing math?
Does your teen say things like…
I can’t do math!
I’ll never get this.
I’m going to fail this math class!
I’m so dumb.
Well, you’re in the right place.
HI! I’m Mary Kennedy, certified math teacher, and I love working with students who struggle with high school math and doubt that they can do it.
I've taught Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2 and have more than 20 years of teaching experience. My Master's degree is in Learning Disabilities.
In my classes, students connect their learning to critical thinking skills (includes reasoning, analysis, and perseverance) and growth mindset (“I haven’t learned this YET.”).
I strive to make the math concepts accessible to struggling learners.
Help your teen regain confidence and learn the skills they need to pass Algebra.
Don’t let math continue to disrupt your family’s life.
About Mrs. K.
I do life in a tiny tourist town with my husband and three kids (when they're home from college).
Twice, my family has had the unique and wonderful experience of hosting students from Southeast Asia in our home and community. We have maintained friendships with these students and their families for several years now through technology, despite our geographic distance.
I love working with students from every country and encourage their language skills in my math classes.
