Sociology 101: What Is Sociology?

In this class, students will learn about what the science of sociology is and some of what it can tell us about our world.
Class experience
This class will describe sociology as a field of science. We will discuss the sociological perspective, as well as what sociologists research. We will also learn about different ways that we can use sociology in different careers and parts of our lives. This will be mostly a lecture class, but students are encouraged to engage in discussion questions and to ask their own questions.
During my time as a graduate student, I was a graduate assistant for sociology classes for four semesters. Since graduating with my M.A. in sociology, I have taught Introduction to Sociology as a college instructor for two semesters. I was working in a high school classroom for one of those semesters. So, I have the knowledge for the class and experience with high school-aged students.
Students will be given a handouts during class. They are not required to bring anything other than note-taking materials for their own use.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
