Social Skills Camp: Let's Make Some New Friends!

Welcome to my Social Skills Camp! Students will embark on a journey to discover the wonders of effective communication, empathy, teamwork and more!

Class Experience

During this 6 week course, students will dive into exciting activities, engaging games, descriptive stories, and meaningful discussions designed to enhance social and emotional skills.  Learners will also build a strong foundation of self-confidence and self-esteem while making new friends and having fun!   

Topics will range from communication skills, empathy and emotions, self-control, and manners to name a few.  

During this 6 week course, learners will participate in the following topics:
Week 1:  Communication & Listening Skills
Week 2:  Sharing with Others
Week 3:  Empathy and Emotions
Week 4:  Manners and Kindness
Week 5:  Practicing Self-Control
Week 6:  Making New Friends

*The classes do not have to be taken in order so learners may join my class at any time.  

*Although this class is offered once a week, it will be offered on Tuesdays or Thursdays. We will not have class during the week of July 1st.

Learning Goals

Students will gain the foundational skills needed to express their emotions effectively, communicate their needs clearly, and engage in cooperative and appropriate interactions with their peers.

Supply List

Materials will generally not be needed in our weekly classes.
*In order to always be prepared, students may want to have available: whiteboard and marker, paper and pencils, coloring tools.  
*If materials are specifically needed for a specific class, I will post it on our class page prior to the class session.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Hello & welcome to my profile! My name is Diana Jones. I have earned my Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, a Master's degree in Curriculum & Instruction, as well as a Master's degree in Education Leadership.  I earned all three degrees from Ottawa University, in Arizona. I am certified to teach Early Childhood-8th grade (in all subject areas).

I have been working in the education field for nearly 20 years.  I began as a paraprofessional/aide, working alongside students with learning disabilities.  I then began attending school and working towards becoming a teacher.  I graduated, in 2008, and have been teaching and working with students ever since.  

I taught 3rd grade for ten years.  I then moved up to teach 4th grade in the areas of ELA and Social Studies.  The following year, I looped up and taught 5th grade.  I proceeded to become an instructional coach, working alongside many teachers in grades K-8, helping them grow in their skills and teaching craft.  Throughout my years in the classroom, I spent every summer working in either a summer school setting, teaching students from grades K-5, or working in my local YMCA summer camps with students of all ages.  

I first began teaching online during the Covid Pandemic.  Teaching online gave me a new passion for teaching. I enjoyed building relationships, teaching, and helping students grow through the power of technology!

I love being a teacher because I get to inspire and empower students every day, witnessing their growth and seeing their potential unfold brings me immense joy and fulfillment.  I dedicate my time to teaching and finding ways to keep students engaged, having fun, and talking and learning with one another.  I believe that all students can and will learn with lots of encouragement and confidence which I enjoy helping them build within themselves.
