This is an ongoing course that is best for children who struggle with social skills, such as children with Autism. However, all students can benefit from these skills Social skills are especially important to develop during middle school years. Learners will have ample opportunity to interact with each other. We will also cover social expectations relevant to social media, which is a huge part of today's social world. We will also cover topics in school, such as having conversations with teachers, peers, and in the cafeteria. Every class will begin with introductions where learners will share a bit about themselves. Every week, will review social scenarios presented through a slideshow, using videos and images as well. These scenarios will serve as conversation starters for discussions. Weekly topics will include: Week 1 : Identifying emotions in others (January 6th) Week 2: Posting on social media, interacting with others on social media (January 13th) Week 3: Advocating for yourself at school to teachers (January 20th) Week 4: Peer Relations (January 27th)
Learning Goals
Learners will improve their ability to interact with same age peers in different situations in life.
