Class Experience

Are you interested in Japanese? Are you unsure of where to start or what to expect? This is a great beginner class to help you decide and get excited about learning Japanese! Japanese has a reputation of being hard for English speakers to learn. While the language certainly comes with its own set of unique challenges, there are just as many aspects of Japanese that make it a great language to learn.

In this class, we will talk about some key characteristics of the Japanese language such as:
- The different ways Japanese can be read
- Honorifics
- The 4 writing systems

This class will primarily be presented in PowerPoint format. The beginning of the lesson is more lecture-based. However, as we learn about these topics, students will have opportunities to openly discuss how learning Japanese would compare with their own experiences learning English. We will also learn how to read the first few characters of the Hiragana writing system. This will, in turn, allow students to practice reading a few basic words! At the end of the lesson, we will have fun learning and guessing some loanwords that Japanese has taken from English.

**note**: This is designed to be a one-shot class that gives a more generalized overview of learning Japanese. If you are interested in jumping straight into learning Japanese, I recommend my Hiragana course! For more information, please view the link below:
