So You Want To Be An Author?
In this class students will write their own story using the book, You Choose. We will read You Choose to help us to draft the parts of our story. We will end with an author meet and greet to share our completed stories.

Beginner Level
Which path will you choose? Do enjoy creative writing and drawing? This class is an interactive class where students will write a story of their own by choosing the path their story takes as we read You Choose together. We will build our stories together over the course of three meetings. In between classes writers will be encouraged to add details and illustrations to their work. Each class will provide time for writers to share their story and receive feedback from their classmates or teacher. The final week will be a chance for us to share our stories with each other in an authors meet and greet.

Syllabus
4 Lessons
over 4 WeeksLesson 1:
In the beginning
In this class we will create the beginning of your story together as you choose the path your story takes. We will add in important characters and details to help get a reader's attention. 40 mins online live lesson
Lesson 2:
In the middle
In this class we will add the middle of our story. This lesson will focus on creating the problem in the story. We will add additional characters and details if needed. Students will have time to share what they have so far and ask for feedback from their peers to consider adding to their story. 40 mins online live lesson
Lesson 3:
In the end
In this lesson we will wrap the story up and bring it to a close. We will come up with a solution to the problem in the story. Students will have a chance to read their story as a whole and have time provided to revise and edit with the help of their classmates and teacher. 40 mins online live lesson
Lesson 4:
Let's meet the authors
In this session we will take turns sharing our final stories with the class. We will share something we enjoyed from each person's story. Students will reflect on the process it takes to become an author. 40 mins online live lesson

Pre-Requisites
Students need to be able to write in a manner that they can read their own writing.
Supply List
Students will need access to paper and writing utensils in this class.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Hi Families! I have a bachelor's degree in early childhood education and have been a certified early childhood educator of 20 years! I also have a master's degree in educational technology. I have a passion for early literacy and building community with class meetings. I love Disney and LEGOs. I enjoy making learning fun through hands on and active learning. I enjoy tying literacy to other modalities of learning like art or STEM. I feel like learning should be fun for all stakeholders.
